Search Engine Optimization Techniques

by Allan and Dawn on October 23, 2010

Search engine optimization techniques to enhance our chances of making friends with search engines are a wonderful invention. However, there is a major problem here. When you are relatively new to using search engine optimization techniques you can quickly become mired in what seems like a bog. Sure it must all be so ho-hum for those of you who have been on the internet for some time. But for those of us trying to do a “learn all” crash course of SEO in a couple of days – it can end up feeling as though you are really getting nowhere.

Ok so we have accepted that clever search engine copywriting might just have a bit more magic up their sleeve than us with their knowledge to write unique, engaging, compelling, quality content – har! And “the general trust and authority that your domain has due to quality incoming links is the largest indicator of SEO success”. Well! – goodness knows how the search engines propose that newer folk are meant to achieve that mouthful!

We find the major difficulty is that there is not a consensus concerning SEO. It would appear that there aren’t always cut and dried answers for SEO. Therefore how do we know who is the authority and who isn’t as far as SEO is concerned. Who should we believe and whose advice should we disregard?

And then the debate of “write for search engines or write for people” often appears. From all that we have researched on this topic the smartest thing we have learnt is don’t do anything that might make Google think you’re trying to trick them. This is especially advised against.

Until we truly understand search engine optimization then the basic reasons for copywriting such as entertaining, informing or selling should provide us with some direction. And overtime we will slowly make friends with the search engines (and Google) and we too will be masters of search engine optimization techniques.

Cheers
