There are different ways of getting backlinks to a site. What we are going to do today is just one way. We have a site which is more an interest at the moment concerning cats but further down the track we will commercialize it. Cats have always been part of our world so it seems natural for us to start a blog and write about things we enjoy writing about. This is great for down time between more serious things.
When you choose a blog url and title if you want free traffic from the search engines then it is necessary to do keyword research first. You will notice our site is actually called Love of Cats. Please click on the link as we would love any cat fanciers to visit us. We chose the words Love of Cats because as you can imagine the word cats is highly competitive. It would take enormous resources to compete in a niche titled ‘cats’. Whereas by doing some keyword research we find the words ‘love of cats’ isn’t nearly as competitive. Therefore it is easier to get free traffic coming to us from the search engines.
So you see when you eventually decide upon a niche then build other sites and send links between them using the relevant anchor text. This strategy is called content clusters, not that putting a name to it alters anything! The site with the highest page rank leaks off some of its influence to other sites that it is linked to. Now Google begins to notice that the site with the least influence is getting new friends with a bit more influence and starts taking a bit more interest. The internet and Google still work like this. However keep in mind everything is always evolving and in twelve or so months another strategy may be more effective.
